Germany and Israel agree historic weapon deal

The sale of three Arrow 3 hypersonic missile systems is the largest-ever agreement for Israel’s military sector and will play a crucial role in protecting Europe from air attacks.

Thursday’s agreement signing in Berlin marked a ‘historic day’ for both nations, as stated by German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius during a news conference with his Israeli counterpart Yoav Gallant.”

Valued at approximately 3.5 billion dollars (3.3 billion euros), this sale is the largest-ever contract for Israel’s military sector. Pistorius stated that the Arrow 3 system will prepare German air defense for the future.

Germany has taken the lead in enhancing NATO’s air defenses in Europe, especially following Russia’s complete invasion of Ukraine last year. They’ve been encouraging allies to collectively invest in deterrent systems. Pistorius pointed out, “We can observe the significance of anti-air defense in light of Russia’s frequent attacks on Ukraine.”

The agreement signing was a deeply emotional moment for every Jewish person, reflecting on the Holocaust, shared Gallant. He remarked, “Only 80 years after the conclusion of World War II, Israel and Germany are working together today to create a safer future.”

The Arrow 3 system, which can shoot down missiles outside Earth’s atmosphere and has a long range, is strong enough to provide protection for nearby European Union countries.

The system was created and made by Israel and the United States, and the sale had to get approval from Washington before it could be completed.
